Infrastructure funding hit list revealed

The Federal Government has revealed a list of shovel-ready Queensland projects to be funded under a COVID-19 recovery plan to boost infrastructure. Upgrades on the Cloncurry–Dajarra Road, Richmond–Winton Road, and the Burke and Gregory Developmental roads are among those to make the cut. Safety upgrades including a $37.5 million project on the Kennedy Highway and $18 million in works on the Peak Downs Highway will also go ahead under the initiative. Together, the State and Federal governments are pumping in an extra $415 million to deliver shovel-ready infrastructure projects and urgent road safety upgrades. The work is expected to support a further 700 Queensland jobs in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. Focus on safety upgrades, flood immunity Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the governments would continue working closely together to get the works started as soon as possible. “Shovel-ready upgrades we’re investing in include the Burke and Gregory Developmental roads as well as smaller works right across the regional network to improve safety, accessibility and flood immunity,” she said. The jointly funded package is supported by investments from the Commonwealth ($324.3 million) and Queensland Government ($90.3 million). Prime Minister Scott Morrison said further investment in infrastructure would play a critical role in the Commonwealth’s JobMaker plan and help the Queensland economy as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. “This funding injection means we have brought forward or provided additional funding of nearly $1.9 billion to Queensland in the past eight months," he said.
