Restructure boost to monsoon-hit communities

More infrastructure funding has reached regional and remote parts of Queensland impacted by the 2019 monsoon trough event. Around $12 million has been allocated to 26 resilience projects to help communities better withstand extreme weather events. It's part of the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments’ $134.5 million infrastructure package. The projects include: Aurukun Shire Council - Infill scoured sections of Aurukun Access Rd and stabilise embankments, $1.2 million Cook Shire Council - Upgrade crossings on five sites along Esk Valley Rd with concrete culverts, $584,000; upgrade nine gravel floodways along Flaggy Rd, $712,000 Croydon Shire Council - Stabilise sections of Guildford Road and install culverts on Guildford Rd and Claraville Rd, $856,000 Douglas Shire Council - Upgrade crossings on Zig Zag Rd, $2.1 million; improve drainage on Cape Tribulation-Bloomfield Rd, $3.1 million Hinchinbrook Shire Council - Floodway on Bailies Rd, $53,000; floodway on Convells Rd, $120,000; stabilise sections of Yuruga Rd, $241,000 Mornington Shire Council - Box culverts and concrete floodways on Ballaleah Road, $439,000 Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council - Causeways on sections of Punsand Bay Rd, $211,000 Richmond Shire Council - Replace the floodway on Walkers Park Rd, $57,000 Townsville City Council - Seal sections of Central Creek Rd, $986,000; seal Pace Rd, $235,000; seal a section of Coast Rd, $187,000; seal a section of Woodlands Rd, $126,000; seal a section of Heath Rd, $37,000; seal a section of Mountview Drive, $190,000 Winton Shire Council - Concrete crossings on Olio-Fairview Crossing, $196,000; extend concrete floodways and stabilise and seal sections of Old Landsborough Highway, $136,000 Recreational Assets: Croydon Shire Council - Repair sections of the heritage stone wall in Croydon Heritage Precinct, $10,000 Department of Environment and Science - Repair sections of the Goldsfield walking trail in Wooroonooran National Park, $121,000 Douglas Shire Council - Seal sections of the access road within Foxton Park, $39,000 Townsville City Council - Repair and reinstate drainage in Horseshoe Bay Park, $155,000; repair vehicle access tracks, Vincent Bushy Park, Rollingstone, $6000 Water and Sewerage Douglas Shire Council - Replace handrails on the bridge crossing Daintree Water Intake, $13,000 These projects are being delivered through the $242 million exceptional circumstances package jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
